Thermal design engineer is responsible for specifying, planning, reporting,
designing and testing in his/her area. Solves complex engineering problems of
own technology area. Coaches other team members in solving engineering problems.
Typically participates in reviews of own or neighboring projects. Has developed
deep knowledge in one area. All Hardware deliverables planned and implemented
according to project plans and completed in line with overall project schedules.
Responsibilities
- Concepting participation from thermal design point of view
- Thermal design in product program
- Thermal measurements and verification against SPR requirements and comfort cases
- Thermal simulation and design tools understanding
- Mentor Flowtherm and proper use of various thermal materials
- TEA.Thermal use for thermal verification
- Thermal manager SW understanding and parameter tuning
- Follow-up on thermal requirements e.g. SPR requirements, Comfort cases
- Contribute to thermal simulation activities to design most robust thermal management concept
- Supply estimation of product power dissipation in different use cases
- Influence power consumption of new chipsets and components
- Analyze future technologies in the area of energy management and thermal design
Job Requirements
- PhD, mechanical engineering, US university for MSME and PhD.
Emphasis in thermo-fluids and Solid Mechanics.
- Design experience, i.e., understands materials manufacturing methods
and have track record of individually generating cost effective manufacturable products
- Track record of early involvement to ensure architecture is correct
to produce thermally complaint and structurally robust consumer products
- Hands on engineer. Able to independently mock-up representative
prototypes, test to prove assumptions and solve any related problems. Able to use simulation as a test tool, i.e., consistently proving simulation results match real test data within acceptable limits.
- CAD experience: Catia, SDRC or ProE preferred, part and assy design
- Simulation tools, Thermal/CFD: Flotherm, IcePak or Fluent UNS, Stuctural: Ansys/LS Dyna, Abacus
- Demonstrated use of infrared Thermography
- Able to use data acquisition, strain gages and thermocouples
- Gregarious personality that has a track record of working with other design
groups/suppliers to obtain proper boundary conditions, set reasonable design limits
and manage development changes to the thermal/structural architecture, e.g.
- Will need to work with RF, BB, Antenna, Audio, Mechanics, etc., to help establish
an overall product that will meet customer expectation
- Expected to have a large portofolio of thermal solution suppliers
contacts along and evidence of successful collaboration experiences.
- English must be excellent
