OVERVIEW:
Conventional thermal management cooling solutions for high- power semiconductors are being severely challenged by increased local heat fluxes and higher total power. Heat pipes have emerged as an elegant and cost effective response to these challenges. This short course covers the heat pipe from inception to advanced laboratory concepts and acquaints the student with basic design, application, and reliability characteristics and concepts.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
Thermal Engineers, Packaging Engineers, System Packaging Engineers, others new to this technology.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Donald M. Ernst is Vice President, Technology & Business Development, Thermacore International, Inc. A graduate of Kansas State University with a B.S. degree in Physics, Mr. Ernst built his first heat pipe in 1963, and is one of a few remaining practicing pioneers in this fascinating branch of Thermal Management. He is widely known for both his theoretical and developmental work, holds 15 US patents, and is the author of over one hundred technical papers on Heat Pipe Theory, Thermal Management, Energy Conversion and Materials Development. Before joining Thermacore, Mr. Ernst worked for a variety of companies including RCA, Thermo Electron, and Isothermics.
