There are many claims being made regarding the performance and reliability of LEDs. This presentation will provide a comprehensive insight into factors that impact LED reliability at the component and subsystem level, with emphasis on package and assembly. We will also discuss technical and statistical approaches that may be used to assess LED reliability, as well as compare how reliability is characterized between traditional (incandescent and fluorescent) and SSL light sources. Finally, the presentation will touch on how SSL product reliability impacts the business model.
- Speaker Biography:
Mark Hodapp, CRE has a MSEE from Stanford University and 36 years experience working at Philips Lumileds as a Senior Applications Engineer. Mark has collaborated in two books, Optoelectronics Applications Manual, 1st and 2nd editions, McGraw-Hill Book Company, 1977, 1981; and High Brightness Light Emitting Diodes, Academic Press, 1997. Mark has presented at the DOE 2009 Chicago Market Introduction Workshop, the DOE 2010 Raleigh R/D Workshop, and the DOE 2010 San Jose Manufacturing Workshop. Most recently, Mark has been involved with reliability testing of LEDs and is responsible for the LM-80 test program at Philips Lumileds.
